USPS Postage Rates Update for Wedding Mailings (2025–2026)
If you’re getting ready to mail your save-the-dates or wedding invitations, postage costs are higher than they were a few years ago, and it’s worth planning for these when budgeting for stationery and mailing.
Here’s what you need to know:
📬 First-Class Mail Rates (Domestic)
1-ounce letter (Forever Stamp) – $0.78 per piece. This is what you’ll use for most response card envelopes and standard letter-size mailings.
Metered 1-ounce letter – $0.74 (if using printed postage instead of a Forever Stamp).
Additional ounce (above 1 oz) – $0.29 per ounce.
Tip: For a typical wedding invitation suite that weighs more than 1 oz, you can either use a higher-value stamp marked for 2 oz or add extra ounce stamps on top of one Forever stamp to meet the correct postage.
📮 Other Key Postage Rates
Domestic postcard rate: $0.61.
First-Class large envelope (“flat”): starts at $1.63 for the first ounce, with $0.29 per additional ounce.
International letter (1 oz): $1.70.
🗓 Effective Date & Future Changes
These rate changes took effect on July 13, 2025. The USPS decided not to raise First-Class Mail stamp prices in January 2026, so these rates remain stable through at least mid-year 2026.
What This Means for Your Wedding Mail
💌 Save-the-Dates & Response Cards
A basic save-the-date postcard can be mailed for $0.61. But if you’re sending standard envelopes with RSVP cards, thank-yous, or other inserts, plan for:
1 Forever Stamp ($0.78) per envelope
+ $0.29 for each additional ounce if your suite weighs more than 1 oz
So a full invitation suite weighing over 1 oz could cost $1.07 or more to mail.
📈 Budgeting for Invitations
If you’re sending out, say, 150 invitations and your weighed envelope costs about $1.07 to mail, that’s around $160 just for postage. It’s smart to weigh a sample invitation at the post office before printing and ordering stamps.
