Preparing For Your Wedding Menu Tasting
Depending on your venue, catering may already be included in the reception package or you may need to hire an outside caterer. Either way, one step you should never skip is the tasting. This is your chance to experience the menu before your guests do, and ensure everything reflects your vision for the day.
But what exactly should you expect at a tasting?
A tasting is a sample, not a full meal.
You’ll get a preview of how each course will look and taste soup, salad, entrée, and often hors d'oeuvres. Some caterers also provide wine pairings or a slice of wedding cake if they’re handling dessert. Don’t forget to take photos to help you compare options later.
Keep your tasting group small.
It may be tempting to bring your whole wedding party, but most tastings are limited to 2–4 guests (the couple included). This keeps the decision-making process focused and manageable.
Give honest feedback.
This is the time to speak up. If something feels too salty, under-seasoned, or not quite right, say so. There are no “do-overs” on your wedding day, so the tasting is the perfect moment to fine-tune the menu.
Come prepared with questions.
To make the most of your tasting, think through these points:
Do you like the presentation and overall look of the food?
What tableware and service items are included?
Are the hors d'oeuvres easy for guests to enjoy while mingling?
Does the menu fit the season and the vibe of your wedding?
What’s the deadline for making final menu changes?
A tasting isn’t just about flavor; it’s about the entire guest experience. By coming prepared, asking the right questions, and sharing your honest thoughts, you’ll leave confident that your wedding meal will be one to remember.
Until next time… WEDologize!
